The American Dental Association is dedicated to promoting the public's health through its initiatives in research, education, advocacy, public awareness and the development of standards.

The Volpe Scholar Researcher will work on projects for the Department of Innovation and Technology Research and will be funded by Colgate-Palmolive grant. This position is being funded until December 31, 2025.

This position leads, proposes, plans, and implements original research studies according to the Research strategy set by the ADASRI Board, focusing on emerging research that could be translated to dental materials, instruments, and the dental industry. Develop experimental design and original/innovative ideas of major methodological significance to the execution of research. Contribute to the analysis of data and publication of research that can lead to new technology and grants application. The research scholar serves as the clinician consultant to the department, partnering with project leads and department leaders to ensure appropriate translation of research into clinical applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Dental Degree (DDS, DMD, or BDS) with a PhD in Health Sciences.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in/with analyzing and interpreting scientific data; planning and executing complex projects from inception to implementation; authoring and editing complex scientific documents with a history of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proficiency in using a range of research-related resources.
  • Previous experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a team-based environment.
  • Training/experience in basic or clinical research in dentistry.
  • Experience managing collaborative activities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have the ability to present technical and scientific information in a language that is clear and concise for scientists and non-scientists.
  • Must be able to write, present, and disseminate research information.
  • Must be able to develop research plans and research proposals.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication, project management, and analytical skills.
  • Must have knowledge of research methods, with a strong background in dental materials, dental devices, or a discipline that can be translated into an emerging area of dental research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (WORD, EXCEL & PowerPoint).
  • Occasional travel including overnight travel to attend and present at scientific conferences.
